VAN HOOK -- Mountrail County Sheriff Corey Bristol has reported that searchers have located the body of the man who fell out of his fishing boat in the Van Hook Arm of Lake Sakakawea on July 17.
Richard Mickelson, 73, Rolla, had been fishing with his wife when he fell overboard while attempting to untangle a fishing line. Mickelson was reportedly not wearing a life vest. His wife was not able to help him get back into the boat. Authorities were soon contacted, and multiple agencies and members of the public mobilized to search the nearby coastline. The search was hampered by high winds and choppy waters in the days after, but searchers continued until his body was recovered and identified Friday afternoon.
