EGELAND — One person died and another was injured in a one-vehicle crash on N.D. Highway 66, four miles east of Egeland in Towner County on Saturday.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Brittney Beck, 31, Cando, a passenger in the vehicle, died in the crash. Jayce Thomas, 20, Cando, driver of a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, was injured.

Thomas was going east on the highway when he crossed the center line and traveled through the westbound lane of traffic. The vehicle entered the north ditch, struck and vaulted over a field approach and overturned multiple times. The vehicle caught fire after coming to rest in the ditch. Beck was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The crash happened at 5:47 a.m.

According to the Highway Patrol, seat belts were not in use. The airbags deployed. The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
