Minot's population dropped slightly in the year that ended last July, according to new estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Minot's 2022 population was estimated at 47,759, down from 48,127 residents estimated as of July 2021. The April 2020 base census was 48,384.
Burlington's estimated population was up by nine residents to 1,294, and Surrey's estimated population was up by 29 to 1,393.
In the heart of the oil patch, Watford City saw a little growth to 5,885, although it remains behind the April 2020 census of 6,214. Williston's estimated population of 27,029 was somewhat behind the 2021 estimate and the 2020 census of 29,170.
The State Census Office has noted North Dakota was feeling the lingering effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and oil prices were taking a hit during the period in which the latest estimates were determined.
