The library at Lewis and Clark Elementary in Minot has been dedicated to honor the sacrifice of a Minot native killed in action during the Korean War.
With Korean War veterans in attendance, the dedication honored Capt. George Robert Duane Cross who served with the U.S. Marine Air Group 12 during the conflict and is believed to have perished during a bombing run over North Korea in 1952. Cross's remains were never recovered, and he is still unaccounted for. Six additional fallen Ward County Korean War servicemen were acknowledged on the plaque, along with the 170 North Dakotans who gave their lives in the war.
The 6.25 Foundation, represented on the day by Sungyull Koo, was established to foster the education of students and honor the efforts and memory of those who died in the Korean War. The school received $6,033 from the foundation, which will be used to acquire education resources about the Korean War and other library needs.
The foundation is based in Rupert, Vermont.
