The state 4-H horse contests occurred on March 25-26 in Fargo. Ward County 4-H had 13 youths participate in Horse Judging, Hippology, Demonstrations/Illustrated Talks, Public Speaking and Quiz Bowl. The participants earned multiple awards.
Those participating were:
Nadia and Sadie Lemer, Berthold; Brynlee Bloms and Hailey Schauer, Carpio; Faith
Carpenter, Granville; Mikaela Woodruff, Edgeley; Emily Fannik, Max; Raegan Albert, Lainey
Rockwell and Mackenzie Wipf, Ryder; Piper Thompson, Surrey; and Ilsa and Walter Holt, Velva.
Horse Judging splits into two age groups: Seniors (ages 14 to 18) and Juniors (ages eight to 13).
The classes analyzed by the contestants included Ranch Riding, Western Pleasure, Western
Horsemanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Halter Aged Mares, and Halter Performance Geldings. In
addition, the youth gave oral reasons for Western Pleasure and Halter Aged Mares. The Horse Judging Contest results are as follow.
Seniors:

Hippology splits into three age groups: Seniors (ages 14 to 18), Intermediates (ages 11 to 13),
and Juniors (ages eight to 10). Hippology includes four phases: judging, station
identification, team problem and written exam. Juniors and Intermediates compete as a team at the state contest. Seniors compete individually and as a team. The judging classes
utilized for the Hippology Contest were Hunter Under Saddle and Aged Mares. The Ward
County Senior team combined with Grand Forks County's Faith Krebs of Thompson and
Hannah Steen of Oslo, Minnesota.

Demonstrations/Illustrated Talks and Public Speaking are conducted either individually or in
teams of two people. There are two age groups: Seniors (ages 14 to 18) and Juniors (ages
eight to 13).
In the Public Speaking Contest's senior division, Schauer placed second individually with "Lock it Up" and Wipf placed fourth individually with "People who Imprint, are They Foal of It?"
