Scout troop sponsors Color Dash May 6

A color run/walk will be taking place May 6 in Oak Park, sponsored by a Minot Scout troop.

Minot BSA Troop 5401 is taking registrations for its Scouting Power 5k Color Dash, which will raise funds to help with troop programming, such as awards, merit badges and equipment. Scout Leader Shawn Randash said the troop also would like to purchase a trailer for hauling equipment.

Troop 5401 is an all-female Boy Scout troop that formed in 2019 when the organization opened its membership to girls. Jeremy Putt is scoutmaster. The troop has 12 members ages 11 to 18, and in its first four years has produced seven Eagle Scouts – the first female Eagle Scouts in North Dakota.

It also is an active troop. Members have participated in camps in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Wyoming and will attend Scout camp in Montana this summer. They also have traveled to participate in other events, such as whitewater rafting.

Randash said the troop hopes to make the Color Dash an annual fundraising event. The dash, in which runners or walkers are splashed with colored powder, begins in Oak Park at 10 a.m. The event is open to anyone who wants to participate or watch.

Individuals or teams who register by this Friday are guaranteed a T-shirt and patch. However, registrations will be taken until race time. The event site opens at 9 a.m. on May 6.

Registration costs $30 and can be accomplished online at Runsignup.com/Race/ND/Minot/ScoutingPower5KColorDash. There also is a virtual participation option that people can sign up for.

Medals will be awarded to top finishers.

Starting at $2.99/week.
