The Minot State University Concert Choir will present "Engraved In My Heart," choral music of hope and love by Eric Whitacre and Adolphus Hailstork, on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in St. Leo's the Great Catholic Church, Minot.
The concert is free and will feature MSU junior Kylee Cook, freshman Kristin Grubb and senior Tyler Irmen conducting a new a cappella version of the "MSU Alma Mater."
The concert also will feature MSU faculty member Charles Young, playing the tenor sax, Steffen Dauwalder, percussion, Emily Knutson, violin, and Briana Schwan, piano.
"We're so grateful to Father (Todd) Kreitinger at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church here in Minot for inviting us to sing in this fabulous space," said Emerson Eads, director of Choral Activities at MSU. "You will hear the passionate Hebrew Love Songs from the young Eric Whitacre, when he was corresponding with his wife-to-be while she was in Israel. The text is taken from postcards that she sent him while a student at Juilliard."
Earlier this year the choir performed the cantata by Adolphus Hailstork, "I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes," with MSU alumnus tenor Nathan Bowles during its spring choir tour.
"With permission from the composer, we are substituting the tenor voice for the tenor saxophone. You will hear Dr. Young playing near the front of the church, antiphonally with the choir in the balcony," Eads said.
