The Minot Symphony Orchestra will be closing its 97th season with the performance of "Space: The Final Frontier" at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall, located inside Old Main at Minot State University.
Directed by Efrain Amaya, the orchestra is teaming up with Minot High School Women's Ensemble, directed by Lindsay Kerzmann, to perform Gustav Holst's "The Planets." The music will be accompanied by a large projection film, titled "Science & Symphony," produced by Emmy-nominated astronomer and visual artist Jose Francisco Salgado.
The concert also will feature Amaya's "Polaris," Hayden's overture to "The World on the Moon," John Williams' "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," and "Star Trek Through the Years," written by Jerry Goldsmith, arranged by Calvin Custer.
Included with the concert ticket is a 30-minute pre-concert discussion between Erik Anderson and Jose Franscisco Salgado, about the music and science behind "Science & Symphony," starting at 6 p.m.
Tickets are available online at inotsymphony.com or by calling the box office at 858-4228. Livestream tickets also will be available for this concert.
