Collaborating with downtown Minot businesses/organizations is one of teacher Amy Larson's favorite things to incorporate into her classes at Minot's Central Campus.
"I love to show students the wonderful businesses Minot has to offer the community," said Larson.
She tells about a recent experience for her students:
Mainstream Boutique owners, Kris Schwan and Dawn Gullickson opened up their beautiful store to collaborate with Amy Larson’s Modern Sewing & Textile classes from Central Campus this past week.
Students learned about fashion and design from Mainstream Boutique’s fashion consultant, Ashley Christ, who graduated from the Art Institute of Los Angeles. Christ brought in handmade gowns and portfolios from her time in design school and discussed her journey through fashion and clothing production.
Students asked questions pertaining to the fashion industry and how to make a career out of it here in Minot. Many students were inspired by Christ to pursue their dreams in clothing design after her story and demonstrations.
In addition, Schwan and Gullickson generously gave students custom clothing pieces from their store. Students were excited to use the clothing donations to recreate new fashion trends and upcycle trendy outfits. Community collaboration at its finest.
