Ten teams entered the arena at the Ramkota hotel in Bismarck on Monday for the State MATHCOUNTS competition, and it was the Rockets of Erik Ramstad Middle School who claimed the top spot on the podium.
MATHCOUNTS is a national competition for middle school students that aims to promote education in mathematics, science, engineering and technology. Students Ashley Carr, Evan Guilmino, Leon Yang and Harrison Schaefer placed first in the team competition, with Yang also claiming first place individually.
Yang, along with the team's teacher, Consuelo Devine, will receive an all-expense paid trip to Florida for the National MATHCOUNTS competition on May 13.
