Winter storm on its way
Minot snow total could be 10 inches
A winter storm forecasted to leave the Minot area with 7-10 inches of snow by Wednesday will begin moving in this evening, according to the National Weather Service.
Winds of 15-20 mph could make traveling difficult during the worst of the storm, but the NWS also reports the storm is expected to wrap back around, leaving light amounts of additional snow but bringing strong winds that could create visibility issues.
Alex Edwards, meteorologist with the NWS in Bismarck, said a chance of freezing drizzle exists this evening. That could create some ice accumulation, but the issues with freezing drizzle and ice are predicted to be more of a problem farther south of Minot, he said.
The snow storm is expected to start Tuesday morning, bringing the heaviest snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, Edwards said. The following wrap-around occurrence is forecasted to continue through Friday and possibly Saturday.
Temperatures are expected to remain seasonably mild, with highs of about 30 today through Wednesday, falling to the low 20s on Thursday and continuing to fall through Sunday, which is forecasted for a high of 7.
