Minot man charged with robbery

Sompohi Guy, 20, Minot, has been charged in district court in Ward County with Class B felony robbery with intent to menace serious bodily injury or infliction of serious bodily injury.

According to court documents, Guy is alleged to have committed the crime on March 28 at a Minot department store. He was not served with a warrant until Nov. 15 and did not make an initial appearance on the charge until Friday.

According to the police affidavit, Guy was with two women when he allegedly rushed through a door while pushing a shopping cart filled with stolen merchandise and knocked a store employee onto her back. A second employee tried to help her co-worker and Guy allegedly punched the second woman in the head. Both women received medical treatment, according to the affidavit. The value of the stolen merchandise was about $800, according to the affidavit.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan. 5.
