Classes in session in Minot schools

Winter storm not as severe in Minot

A winter storm that walloped the eastern part of the state appeared to have largely missed Minot on Wednesday, though some schools reported a few hiccups.

Minot Public Schools within the city held classes as usual on Wednesday, though Minot Air Force Base students did not make it into town, according to a staff member. Classes were also in session at Bishop Ryan Catholic School, though the private school had a late start at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. A staff member at Our Redeemer’s Christian School said Wednesday that classes were in session and they were having a normal day, though a few students were a little slow getting to school due to the weather.

Minot State University was open Wednesday and no changes were made due to the weather, said Mike Linnell, director of university communications.

A winter storm warning has been in effect for the area this week.

North Dakota Health and Human Services offices in Minot and elsewhere in the state closed Wednesday in response to hazardous weather and travel conditions. Affected offices included regional human service centers, vocational rehabilitation and child support offices.

The Minot Public Library closed early at 5 p.m. Wednesday due to the weather conditions.

Elsewhere in the area, Williston State College was closed in anticipation of the storm on Wednesday and all regularly-scheduled face-to-face final exams were held virtually or were to be made up later in the week if they could not be done online.

The University of North Dakota in Grand Forks closed Wednesday due to the storm. It noted that no travel advisories were in effect for most of the roads in the Grand Forks area.

The Ward County Courthouse in Minot was open as usual on Wednesday. Area counties that closed their courthouses were McHenry, McKenzie, Rolette and Wells County.

Starting at $2.99/week.
