Authorities investigating fatal fire near Tioga
TIOGA – A mobile home fire in rural Tioga on Wednesday claimed the life of one person
Mountrail County Sheriff Corey Bristol said his office received a 911 call stating that a rural residence had burned to the ground and was still on fire. The Tioga Fire Department and the Mountrail County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
Once at the scene, it was determined the old mobile home that was located on the property had burned completely to the ground and was still smoldering. Attempts were made to contact the known homeowner with no success so the area was checked. In the rubble of the fire, human remains were discovered.
The North Dakota Fire Marshal’s office was contacted and responded to the scene as well as an agent from the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Once the scene was made safe the area was searched thoroughly and the human remains were collected. The remains were transported by the Mountrail County coroner to the North Dakota Forensic Examiner’s Office in Bismarck.
The positive identification of the human remains and cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation.
