USPS responds to customer concerns

Postal customers line up for service at the Minot Post Office shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Long lines have become common at the post office.

The Minot Post Office will be participating in a districtwide Mega Job Fair Nov. 4 to recruit for several open positions.

Minot and area residents are again raising concerns about their postal delivery, which appears to be directly related to staffing shortages at the U.S. Postal Service. A workforce shortage has been affecting many businesses in the state.

“The Postal Service is committed to providing the best possible service to our customers and we apologize for any inconvenience that may have been experienced,” the USPS said in a statement released Tuesday. “Local management in Minot, ND, are aware of delivery issues and taking steps to address the concerns. We appreciate the patience of our customers. We will continue flexing our available resources to match the workload and are proud of the efforts of postal employees as they define essential public service every day.

”When mail service issues occur, we take steps to quickly resolve customer concerns.  We gladly work to address any specific issue from the community when brought to our attention and we encourage customers to reach out to their local postal station,” the Postal Service added.

Customers also can to usps.com and click on “contact us” at the bottom of the homepage, or go directly to https://usps.force.com/emailus/s/.

Every email will be carefully documented and appropriate action taken to strengthen service, the Postal Service stated.

In addition, the official Twitter account of the Postal Service, managed by the social media staff at USPS headquarters, can provide help. For customer service, tweet @USPSHelp.

“The Postal Service will diligently continue to investigate customer’s concerns and correct deficiencies to improve service to our communities,” the USPS statement said.

At the upcoming Mega Job Fair, the Minot Post Office will be accepting applications for city carrier assistants, rural carrier associates, assistant rural carriers and postal support employee clerks. USPS personnel will be on site to provide detailed information about the positions and answer questions. The event runs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the post office at 117 5th Ave. SW.

Applications can be submitted online anytime at www.usps.com/careers. Applicants must be 18 years of age and be able to pass drug screening and a criminal background investigation.

As part of its 10-year plan, Delivering for America, the Postal Service reports it is focused on building a more stable and empowered workforce, which includes robust training and on-the-job support. Starting pay ranges from $18.92 to $19.62 an hour, depending on the position, and benefits and advancement opportunities are offered.

Starting at $2.99/week.
