Highway Patrol gets less conspicuous vehicles

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is deploying a patrol vehicle with reflective graphics that are less visible in the daytime and equipped with interior lights rather than an external light bar, according to the Highway Patrol. The intent is to make it harder for drivers to see the troopers.
According to the Highway Patrol, drivers slow down when they spot a patrol vehicle and it makes it harder for Highway Patrol troopers to stop them for speeding, reckless driving or other traffic violations.
The new patrol cars will be used first in the Fargo area and then in other areas of the state.
"The purpose of this less conspicuous patrol vehicle is to allow officers to observe dangerous driving behaviors directly and serve as a deterrent to eliminate needless crashes," said NDHP Col. Brandon Solberg.
