Morales sentencing scheduled for Nov. 4

ourt records show a new sentencing date has been scheduled for Nov. 4 for convicted murderer Bradley Joe Morales, 32, of Minot.

Morales represented himself at his re-trial in May for the August 2017 stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend, Sharmaine Leake, but he decided to plead guilty in the middle of the trial. Morales had been previously convicted of the murder of his ex-girlfriend, and Judge Doug Mattson sentenced him to 40 years in prison, but the State Supreme Court ruled that he must be given a new trial because of structural errors during the trial.

A sentencing date had been scheduled last month but had to be called off because Morales had not signed a consent form to release his personal information to an evaluator who was doing a psychological evaluation on him as part of a pre-sentencing report. Morales said he would sign the form, and Judge Mattson later set a new sentencing date.
