MANDAREE – A ribbon cutting was held on Wednesday for a new community store in Mandaree.
This store is open for the 2022 Mandaree Powwow The powwow started Thursday with flag raising and will end late Sunday night..
The Wolf Chief Store & More is made by the community for the community. There is the Hay Draw Cafe, Thrive & Vibe drinks and treats, Emergency Closet and Zihx Adhish, the bouncing house that was the original use of the building.
The huge jump house was not getting the use that the community needed.
“We needed a place to eat, and a place to get coffee and a close place to get groceries,” West Segment Councilwoman (Mandaree) Sherry Turner-Lone Fight said. She gave locals a chance to work and direct what was needed.

One of the gems in the newly remodeled building is the Emergency Closet, where community members can go if they need help and are down on their luck. The Emergency Closet provides not only emergency supplies but all the paperwork to give them further assistance and help them to help themselves.
Rep. Ruth Buffalo, D-Fargo, who is originally from Mandaree and was one of the guest speakers at the ribbon cutting, said on Twitter, “Maacigiraac (thank you) for being good relatives and taking care of one another.”
