Fort Union plans summer events

WILLISTON — Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site announces the return of Kids Craft Saturdays. Each Kids Craft activity is free, open to the public, and accessible to all age levels. Activities will take about one hour to complete. All activities will run from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m.

On July 9, fort visitors will be able to make their own clay pieces. All kinds of pottery and Chinaware were found during Fort Union archaeological digs.

On July 16, visit the fort to create a parfleche while learning about the history of American Indian backpacks and suitcases.

Axe throwing is on the schedule July 23. Try your hand at axe throwing with child-safe axes.

On July 30, learn basic knitting techniques. Knitting was a common activity during the period of the fort, and knitted textiles were traded on the Upper Missouri.

Park hours are from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Visit nps.gov/fous for more information.
