Vern Lysford

Sept. 29, 1960 – June 24, 2022

Vern Lysford, 61, of

Oslo, MN, passed away on

Friday morning, June 24,

2022, after a 10-year battle

with metastatic Melanoma

that he faced with grace,

dignity, and his UNIQUE

sense of humor.

Vernon M. Lysford was

born on September 29,

1960 in Karlstad, MN, the

third of five children of

Melvyn and Irene (Wal-

lace) Lysford. He grew up

in Kennedy, MN, and gra-

duated from Kennedy

High School in 1979.

He attended University

of North Dakota and gra-

duated from the Universi-

ty of Minnesota-Morris in

1983. He played football

at both colleges. He was a

member of UND’s 1979

NCC Championship team

which was inducted into

their Hall of Fame.

He was married to his

first wife, Jill Carlson, on

December 12, 1981 in Hal-

lock. Together they raised

three children, Melanie,

Megan, and Garrett.

Vern was a Certified

Management Accountant

and also Enrolled to Prac-

tice before the IRS. He

spent his career working

in accounting and fi-

nance, mainly for Super-

pumper Inc. in Minot,

ND, and Nordic Fiberglass

in Warren.

He was very proud of

his association with UND

Football and traveled ex-

tensively to watch their

games. He was an associ-

ate member of the Canadi-

an Mafia fishing cartel. He

was a licensed pilot and

scuba diver, and also en-

joyed golf, racquetball,

and annoying his family-

not necessarily in that

order.

Vern and Jill created

the Melanie Lysford Foun-

dation, which for 23 years

has awarded scholarships

to students of Jim Hill

Middle School to attend

Jazz Band Camp at the

International Peace Gar-

dens, and Advanced

Space Academy of Hunst-

ville, AL.

He is survived by his

long-suffering wife of 40

years, Jill of Oslo;

daughter, Megan (Michael

Meehlhause) Lysford of

Bemidji; son, Garrett

(Kaylee) Lysford of

Pasadena, MD; “adopted”

daughters, Ester Ferret

Mas (Jeremy) of Bristol,

UK, and Chelsie (Chris

Lommen) McLaughlin and

Rheanna (Brandon)

Moles, both of Phoenix,

AZ; “adopted” grand-

daughter, Eva Lommen;

siblings, Mary Kay (Ken)

Schuh of Lakota, ND;

brothers, Troy (Kathleen)

and Tim (Josie) both of

Dalhart, TX, and Doug

(Nancy) of Karlstad;

in-laws, Jan (Rob) Sobolik

of Moorhead, MN, Joan

(Greg) Gottsman of Maple

Grove, MN, Jacquie (Tim)

Schulte of Hallock, and

Eric Carlson of Mooreton,

ND; along with a couple

13-14 nieces and

nephews.

He was preceded in

death by his parents;

in-laws, Gordon and Kay

Carlson; and his oldest

daughter, Melanie, who

passed away on February

27, 1999.

Friday, July 1, 2022, at

10:30 AM, in Sts. Peter &

Paul Catholic Church,

Warren, MN.

VISITATION: Thurs-

day, June 30, starting at

5:00 PM, with sharing (all

are invited to do so) at

6:00 PM, in Sts. Peter &

Paul Catholic Church,

Warren.

“FELLOWSHIP”: will

follow in Jamieson’s on

Main in Oslo, with his

brothers buying the first

round.

INTERMENT: Oslo
