Minot man sentenced for assault

Chauncey Lakeante Johnson, 22, Minot, was sentenced on Thursday to 360 days in jail, all suspended, followed by two years of supervised probation, for Class A misdemeanor assault.

Johnson had originally been charged, along with two co-defendants, with Class B felony conspiracy to commit robbery. The two co-defendants were sentenced earlier and received the same plea deal.

The group were all originally charged in the attack on a man at a north Minot hotel last December. According to court documents, the victim knew the other men from the Ward County jail.

Judge Gary Lee also ordered Johnson to pay court costs and restitution to the victim and to have no contact with the victim.

Johnson is currently serving a six-month sentence in the Ward County Jail after his probation was revoked in another case involving Class C felony possession of methamphetamine.
