Emergency exercise conducted at Minot airport

Submitted Photo A full-scale emergency exercise was held at Minot International Airport this afternoon. A drill of this type is required by the FAA every three years. The scenario: A disgruntled airport worker informed officials that he had placed a bomb in the airport terminal and in an airliner. Minot Police Department, Minot Fire Department, Trinity ambulance and other area first responders took part in the exercise and responded to the airport. The terminal was evacuated, and the suspect was arrested in the airport parking lot. Some time later, a bomb exploded on board an airliner sitting next to the terminal. A city bus was used in this simulation. Firefighters, police officers and ambulance personnel attended to victims of the bomb explosion. Inflatable dummies were used as part of the exercise to simulate more victims, with volunteers also playing the parts of victims. The scenario took place between 2 p.m. and 4 pm.
