Alexander man charged with slew of offenses

Aaron Dwayne Baker, 47, Alexander, is charged in district court in Stanley with Class C felony preventing arrest, Class C felony simple assault on a correctional officer, Class C felony disarming or attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer, Class C felony possession of methamphetamine, his second offense; Class C felony possession of drug paraphernalia, his second offense; Class C felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, Class A misdemeanor reckless endangerment; and Class B misdemeanor reckless driving. All of the alleged offenses happened on Friday.

According to court documents, the charges stemmed from a pursuit, with Baker allegedly fleeing from law enforcement officers at speeds approaching 60 mph in a 25 mph zone in New Town, stopping and then accelerating again. After he stopped and was detained, he allegedly resisted arrest and kicked an officer. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were allegedly found and he allegedly admitted to having used methamphetamine two days before the incident. He was taken to the hospital to be checked out before being transported to jail.

Baker made an initial appearance on the charges on Tuesday before Judge Todd Cresap, who set bond at $20,000 cash or corporate surety.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for July 14 before Judge Stacy Louser.
