Registration opens for youth day camps at Lake Metigoshe

BOTTINEAU – The Outdoor Learning Center at Lake Metigoshe State Park is hosting a series of summer day camps for youth ages seven to 12, focusing on hands-on recreational skills and environmental education. The goal is to provide opportunities to acquire basic knowledge surrounding natural resources in an outdoor setting and to acquire introductory skills to safely enjoy a variety of outdoor recreational activities.

Day camps for those seven and eight years old are scheduled on June 29, June 30, July 27 and Aug 3. Day camps for those nine to 12 years old are scheduled for June 21, July 6, Aug 10 and Aug 11. Each day camp will have its own theme and activities enabling participants to register for one or multiple camps.

The camps will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Registration fees are $40/day per participant and will include the use of recreational equipment, lunch and a snack. Topics and activities include kayaking, wetland exploration, geocaching, survival skills, archery, fishing and mountain biking. Each day will conclude with a short walk to the beach at Lake Metigoshe State Park to play and swim.

Registration is now open. Space is limited. Contact Amy Schimetz at 263-4514 or aschimetz@nd.gov for registration information.
