One died, two injured in one-vehicle rollover near Douglas

DOUGLAS — One person died and two children were seriously injured in a vehicle rollover on Ward County Road 24, five miles west of Douglas, on Friday. The crash occurred at 11:16 a.m.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol said a 42-year-old man from Ryder, driving a 2006 Nissan Xterra, with two 12-year-old female passengers, was traveling west on a county road from the Max school, heading to a residence in rural Ryder. The Nissan encountered a slow-moving row crop sprayer traveling in the same direction, drove into the right ditch as it approached the sprayer, vaulted off an approach and overturned end-over-end. The driver was partially ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and the front air bag deployed.

The juveniles, both wearing seat belts, received serious injuries. One of the girls was transported to Trinity Hospital, Minot, by ambulance and the other girl was transported by helicopter. The crash is under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
