Harvey Smith Jr., Bismarck, charged with terrorizing law enforcement

Harvey Allen Smith Jr., 31, Bismarck, is charged in district court in Stanley with terrorizing for allegedly threatening to kill others, including law enforcement officers, in New Town with a firearm on Jan. 11 and for holding them at a standoff. He is charged with five counts of Class C felony terrorizing, one count of Class C felony preventing arrest, and Class B misdemeanor criminal mischief.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, law enforcement received a call from a man saying that Smith was threatening him with a gun at a New Town residence and he feared for his life. The Mountrail County Sheriff's Office responded along with the Three Affiliated Tribes police department.
