Kristin Keel, Donnybrook, sentenced to 60 days for unauthorized use of credit card

Kristin Marie Keel, 35, Donnybrook, was sentenced on Wednesday to five years in prison, all suspended but 60 days, and three years of supervised probation, for making $1,251.35 in unauthorized charges on a man’s credit card for orders placed online at various sites including Wayfair, Amazon, Walmart, Scheels, and Designer Shoe Warehouse. According to a probable cause affidavit, Keel used the stolen credit card number to purchase children’s toys, furniture and clothing and other household decor, among other items, from last year to March of this year. She pleaded guilty to a Class A felony.

Judge Stacy Louser gave Keel credit for five days already served in jail. She also ordered her to obtain a psychiatric evaluation, to pay $1,025 in court costs and restitution left open for 60 days. She was also ordered to have no contact with the victim. Keel’s lawyer asked for a delayed report date to the Ward County Jail but Judge Louser ordered Keel taken into custody immediately on Wednesday morning.

This was the second time within two years that Keel has a theft-related conviction. She served two weeks in jail in 2019 after pleading guilty to two counts of Class C felony forgery by a public servant and one count of Class C felony fraudulent or misleading communications on a web page. Keel, a one-time member of the Donnybrook Park Board, had reportedly set up a fake Facebook page seeking donations for playground equipment to fulfill the wishes of a sick child. She had also presented a contract to the park board for signatures agreeing to the conditions specified by Make a Wish and the park board had been advertising its current playground equipment for donation. However, the Ward County Sheriff’s Office notified the park board of the investigation and the playground equipment was never actually donated.

Starting at $2.99/week.
