Christopher Alan Vickerman, 31, Minot, was found guilty by a jury on Monday of the May 10, 2019, Class AA felony murder of his father, Mark Vickerman, 55.

Ward County State's Attorney Roza Larson said that no sentencing has yet been scheduled.

According to court documents and statements made at the trial and at past court hearings, Mark Vickerman was shot to death at his Minot residence at 1:59 p.m. on May 10, 2019.

Video from Christopher Vickerman's worksite on May 10, 2019, showed that he left one time that day at 11:41 a.m., then returned to work at 12:41 p.m., then left the worksite a second time at 1:31 p.m. and returned to work again at 2:05 p.m.

Christopher Vickerman called police at 3:44 p.m. from his father's residence to report that he had found his father dead. When police arrived, Vickerman was sitting on a bench outside the house wearing maroon colored work pants, a grayish black sweatshirt with white spatter on it, shoes with a white bottom sole and duct tape on one, and yellow bands on both wrists, clothing that looked similar to the clothing worn by the assailant in the home video surveillance footage.

Mark Vickerman was shot in the chest and four .22-caliber bullets were recovered from his body. Police recovered a .22-caliber bullet fragment from a wall inside Mark Vickerman's residence. They also recovered a bullet casing near a bench outside the door that Christopher Vickerman was sitting on when police arrived in response to the call.

Christopher Vickerman told police he had been working all day except when he left for lunch. He claimed he had gone over to his father's house to sell him a gun. According to witness testimony during the trial, Christopher Vickerman had needed money to pay his rent and Mark Vickerman had offered to buy his guns at any point so Christopher Vickerman would have an opportunity at some point to buy them back.

The murder trial began last week before Judge Doug Mattson. Christopher Vickerman has been held in custody at the Ward County Jail since shortly after the murder.
