On Wednesday, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 753 presented a donation check to Kathleen Gaddie, dealer operator of Ryan Nissan, for the Ryan Nissan Angel Tree Project.

The funds will go to help local homebound and elderly this Christmas season.

The homebound and elderly are often overlooked during the holidays. Many do not receive gifts, letters or cards from loved ones — even at Christmas time.

The Ryan Nissan Angel Tree is meant to remedy that. Ryan Nissan will collect donated gifts from today until Dec. 18. These gifts will be wrapped and personally given to homebound individuals during their delivered meal distributions the week of Dec. 20.

They are simple, practical gifts that will mean so much to those who receive them. The items are those such as armchair caddy, puzzle books (large print), coffee mug/tumbler, easy grip jar opener, small portable humidifier, lotion/skin cream, motion sensor night light pens, socks with gripped bottoms, dish towels, blanket/throw blanket, custom bookmarks, flashlight, jigsaw puzzles, magnifying glass, large print playing cards, sugar-free candy, bath towels, large print crossword puzzle books, dress zipper puller, gift cards, journal/notepad/stationery, massage pillow, robe, boxed greeting cards with stamps and calendar with daily inspirational messages.

Nearly 250 gifts were delivered last year. This year, at least 275 gifts will need to be gathered for individuals on the Angel Tree recipient list.
