New White Shield community center grand opening set

WHITE SHIELD – The community of White Shield will celebrate its new Ralph Wells Jr. Community Center with a grand opening on Friday, Nov. 19.

A program, beginning at 11 a.m., will include a flag song with the White Shield Singers, Young Hawk Bear Post 253, guest speakers, the ribbon cutting and prayer. Lunch will be provided.

A limited number of areas in the new facility opened about two weeks ago.

The facility includes a huge open area upon entering the building, a coffee shop, full-sized gym with track above, bingo hall with a large kitchen, cardio and weight rooms, pool with slide, hot tub, movie theater, and rec center with pool table and golf simulator.

Glenn LaCroix is building manager, and Megan Blacksmith and Mark Nolan are directors of the fitness/rec center.

Originally, the grand opening was scheduled for Oct. 29. It was postponed until Nov. 19.
