Sebastian Caldwell to become troop’s 100th Eagle Scout

Sebastian Caldwell will be honored Saturday, Oct. 30, during a 3 p.m. Eagle Court of Honor at the Congregational United Church of Christ Church, 430 N. Broadway, Minot.

Boy Scout Troop 425 will celebrate Sebastian receiving Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank, Eagle Scout, as he becomes the troop’s 100th Eagle Scout.

The church requests all guests to wear a face mask. A meal with a dessert will be served in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the Court of Honor.

Sebastian is the son of Tamera and Paul Markel and Blake Caldwell of Minot. He is a 2020 Minot High School graduate. He is currently attending North Dakota State University to study pharmacy.

His Scouting career began in September 2013 as a WEBELO Scout with Cub Scout Pack 14 of Highland Acres Elementary School in Bismarck. In February 2017 he bridged into Boy Scout Troop 1326 in Bismarck and then transferred into Troop 425 of Minot in October 2017.

He has held numerous leadership positions with the Bismarck and Minot troops. His leadership positions with Troop 425 are bugler, chaplain aide, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader.

He has earned 31 merit badges and he will be receiving the Gold Palm with his Eagle medal for doing 10 merit badges over the minimal of 21. He has also earned a number of special awards.

Sebastian has earned 85 days and nights of camping while a Boy Scout. He has attended five summer camps along with several District Camporees and District Klondike Hikes. He has also attended the 2017 National BSA Jamboree at The Summit Bechtel Scout Reserve in West Virginia.

His Eagle Scout project involved planning and organizing both volunteers and materials with the Minot Parks District to secure identification signs with pictures for plant posts in Camp Owetti in Oak Park. He also mulched and weeded target plants and trees while transplanting or replacing missing flora.

Troop 425 began in 1964 and was charted by the North Hill School PTA until 1997. Then Minot Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 753 became the charter organization for the next two years. In 2000 the troop moved to the Congregational United Church of Christ of Minot and the church has since been their charter partner.
