MSU hoopers Cody, Stevahn tabbed as Players to Watch by the NSIC coaches

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced its Preseason Players of the Year and released its 2021-22 Coaches Preseason Poll on Thursday, highlighting Minot State senior guard Max Cody and junior forward Amber Stevahn as Players to Watch.

Cody is a 6-foot-1 guard who will be a fourth-year starter and in his sixth season with the Minot State. Last season he eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in his career and has 1,128 career points as he averaged 14.5 points per game and earned All-NSIC First Team honors last winter. He also is on the verge of breaking the all-time assists record at Minot State, needing just 66 helpers for the school record.

Cody leads a veteran Beavers team that advanced to the NSIC Tournament semifinals last winter and was recognized for that fact by the league’s coaches as Minot State earned 34 points in the NSIC North Division Coaches Preseason Poll and was picked to finish fourth, just one point shy of Minnesota Duluth (35 points).

On the women’s side, Stevahn is coming off a season where she earned Second Team All-NSIC honors. The 5-foot-11 Stevahn led Minot State averaging 15.2 points per game last season and was second on the team with 6.4 rebounds per game.
