Victim of fatal crash identified as Nathan Yoder, Belcourt

The North Dakota Highway Patrol identified a 44-year-old man who was killed in a head-on crash 1 ½ miles east of Rolla on Monday morning as Nathan Yoder of Belcourt. Three people in Yoder’s vehicle, Elizabeth Yoder, 39, a 13-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, all of Belcourt, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after the crash, as was the driver of the other vehicle, Charles Vondal Jr., 22, of Rolla, who also sustained serious injuries.

According to the Patrol, Nathan Yoder was driving a 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan east on U.S. Highway 281 and Vondal was driving a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee west on U.S. Highway 81. A third vehicle, which was not struck, was stopped in the eastbound lane to make a left turn onto 52nd Avenue NE and was waiting for Vondal to pass before making the turn. Nathan Yoder passed the stopped car and struck Vondal’s vehicle head-on in the westbound lane. Both vehicles entered the north ditch after the collision. All of the occupants of the vehicles had to be extricated from their vehicles.

The accident happened at 8:08 a.m. Monday.
