Two people killed in three-vehicle crash

HUNTER – Two people from Devils Lake died in a three-vehicle crash on N.D. Highway 18, two miles south of Hunter in northern Cass County, on Saturday.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol said Richard Nelson, 82, driver of a 2016 Hyundai Sante Fe, and passenger Marilyn Sandbeck, 69, died in the crash.

Several other people were injured in the crash.

The Patrol said a Suburban, driven by Amy Ulmer, 39, Wheatland, was going north on Highway 18 and waiting to make a left turn into a private driveway. The Hyundai was going south at the same location when a Silverado, driven by Jason Olsonoski, 43, Moorhead, Minnesota, rear ended the Suburban. The Suburban was pushed into the southbound lane and struck the Hyuandi head on.

A juvenile in the Surburban was taken by Sanford AirMed to Sanford Hospital, Fargo. The other Suburban occupants, the driver and a juvenile were taken by ambulance to Fargo. The driver of the Silverado had minor injuries. All vehicles were totaled. The crash remains under investigation.
