Victims in fatal accident identified

The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the victims of a fatal two-vehicle crash on Wednesday in Sheridan County.

A Pierce County Sheriff’s Office transport van driven by Geraldine Miller, 58, of Towner, went through a stop sign at the intersection of North Dakota Highways 14 and 200 and struck the left side of a 2014 GMC Savanna driven by Jerry Evenson, 78, of Tacoma, Wash. A passenger in Evenson’s vehicle, Philomena Evenson, 81, of Tacoma, Wash., was thrown from the vehicle when it overturned and was killed. Jerry Evenson was transported to St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck with serious injuries. Passengers in the prison transport van sustained non life-threatening injuries and were taken to a Rugby hospital for treatment. They included Michael Jacobs, 31, from Esmond, and Alejandro Zavala Fernandez, 36, an inmate at the Heart of America Correctional and Treatment Center in Rugby. Miller was taken to a Harvey hospital for treatment.

The accident happened at 11:04 a.m. Wednesday. The prison transport van was enroute fon ND Highway 14 from Bismarck to Rugby and the GMC was traveling west on ND Highway 200 to Turtle Lake.
