Purple Heart Wall of Honor to be displayed

The Minot Civil Air Patrol Wreaths Across America will be displaying its Purple Heart Wall of Honor beginning Friday, Aug. 6, through Monday, Aug. 9, in the lobby of the Grand Hotel, Minot.

Saturday, Aug. 7, is National Purple Heart Day, a day to remember and honor men and women who were either wounded on the battlefield, or paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives. The Purple Heart Medal, a combat decoration, is awarded to those members of the U.S. armed forces or posthumously to their next of kin.

The Purple Heart Wall of Honor displays 87 veterans’ names of those buried in Rosehill Memorial Park in Minot.

It is is dedicated in the memory of Max Zurcher who served in the U. S. Army during Vietnam.

Booklets with the 87 names and applications to sponsor a wreath will be available at the Grand Hotel display. Wreaths have been placed on every grave in Sections 12 and 16 at Rosehill during past years and extra wreaths sent to Arlington National Cemetery.

The wall will also be displayed on Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Dakota Territory Air Museum. Minot.
