Tractor Pull

Andrea Johnson/MDN Hunter Hook of Mandan pedals his way to victory in the 4-year-old division of the Kids’ Tractor Pedal Pull at the North Dakota State Fair on Tuesday.

Strong 4-year-old Hunter Hook, from Mandan, grimaced and pedalled fiercely during the second round of the 4-year-old division of the Kids’ Tractor Pedal Pull at the North Dakota State Fair.

His effort paid off and he twice made a full pull, winning his division and defeating his cousin, 4-year-old Jeremiah Hook of Mandan, and 4-year-old James Connolly from St. Paul, Minn.

Each kid got a head start push from an adult, but the weighted down miniature tractors got a whole lot heavier once they had to pedal them without any more momentum.

The annual competition had winners in divisions for each age category through age 11.

Trophies were handed out for first, second and third place.

Winners in each age category are eligible to advance to the National Pedal Pull Championships in Mitchell, S.D., on Sept. 25.
