Ruben Cruz, Bottineau, sentenced to 35 years in federal prison
Ruben Joe Cruz, 38, of Bottineau, was sentenced to 35 years in prison in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, use of a firearm during and relation to a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon and fugitive unlawfully in possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
U.S. District Court Judge Peter Welte also sentenced Cruz to five years of supervised release following the prison sentence and ordered him to pay $59,113 in restitution and $500 in special assessment fees.
According to court records, Cruz shot and wounded a Grafton police officer while he was fleeing a federal arrest warrant on Aug. 14, 2020.
