Person of interest Kennedy also wanted on federal probation violation

Kamauri Saeed Kennedy, 32, who has been named as a person of interest by Minot police in connection with their investigation into the June 3 murder of Domonique Kelley, 33, in Minot, is also wanted on a federal probation violation in Michigan.

According to court documents, Minot police told Kennedy’s probation officer on June 7 that Kennedy has been living in Minot since November 2020 in violation of his probation. Surveillance video showed Kennedy at the Minot Walmart on April 29 and at an oil change shop in Minot on June 1. He was not permitted to leave the state of Michigan as a condition of his probation. His probation officer last spoke with Kennedy on June 5. Kennedy called using a different number than he had previously used, according to court documents. The probation officer last saw Kennedy on May 6 in person in Michigan.

Kennedy is on federal probation until January 2022 for conspiracy to interfere with commerce by threats or violence and interference with commerce by threats and violence. According to court documents, Kennedy and a group of other men participated in a “smash and grab” style robbery at an Atlanta jewelry store in June 2013 and made off with 19 Rolex watches that were valued at a combined $637,600. There were six employees and one customer inside the jewelry store at the time of the robbery. An investigation revealed that the perpetrators had ties to Detroit, Mich., and the group traveled around the country committing similar robberies at jewelry stores. Kennedy and his co-defendants were eventually apprehended and he was sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised probation. Kennedy was permitted to return to Michigan, where he was still supposed to be living.

Minot police are still looking for Kennedy, whom they say had ties to Kelley. Kelley, who was the victim of a homicide, was found deceased inside a burning vehicle in Minot on June 3. Shortly after Kelley’s body was discovered, a residence that was associated with Kennedy was intentionally burned. Kennedy is believed to have left Minot in a gray 2013 Chrysler 300 vehicle, which was later discovered in the Minneapolis area. The Chrysler had also been burned.

Minot police believe Kennedy returned to either Michigan or to the Minneapolis area. They say Kennedy is known to use multiple aliases and people may know him by different names.

Kennedy is described as a black male, standing approximately 6 feet 1 inches tall and weighing approximately 220 pounds.

Police ask anyone who has seen him or has knowledge of his whereabouts to call the Minot Police Department at 701-852-0111 or Crime Stoppers at 701-852-7463 (701-85-CRIME). Callers may remain anonymous and might be eligible for a cash reward. Reference Case No. 21-15675.

Police are also still seeking a 2017 Yukon Denali with North Dakota plates: 493CCV. The vehicle has black rims, blacked-out GMC decals and purple sticker decals. The Denali is also associated with the case.
