Amber Garza, Grand Forks, charged with theft

Amber Lee Garza, 42, Grand Forks, is charged with giving false information on paperwork to purchase a 2001 Dodge Sport from Ron Lowmans Motors in Minot on June 20, 2018, and of making an initial payment on the car with a check on a closed account. The vehicle was valued at $3,621.25.

Garza is charged with Class C felony theft of property.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Garza told police that the car broke down and she left it by the side of the road in Anoka, Minn., and stopped payment on the check because the vehicle broke down. Law enforcement in Anoka said there was no such car abandoned by the roadside.

The charge was not filed against Garza until April 2019, 10 months after the incident, and she was not served with the warrant until Friday, more than three years after the incident.

Garza was scheduled to make an initial appearance on the charge on Friday in district court in Minot.
