Menoken Farm tours, gardening session set for June 22

BISMARCK – Registrations are being taken for the 2021 Menoken Farm garden and field tours/gardening educational sessions scheduled for June 22. The events will be held at Menoken Farm, Burleigh County Soil Conservation District’s conservation demonstration site east of Bismarck.

This annual event features two events. People can sign up for one or both.

The “Walk of Life” will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. This event features a walking tour of the Menoken farm gardens and a trailer ride to the fields to learn more about cover crops, soil health and rotational grazing. Presenters include Keith Knudson, Jay Fuhrer and Darrell Oswald.

“Gardening Local Treasures” will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. This event will feature four rotating stations with the following speakers and topics:

– Keith Knudson on summer horticultural projects at Dakota College at Bottineau.

– Lori Martin on high-value crop production in protected environments.

– Hannah and Jonathon Moser on successional planting for constant, consistent harvests.

– Roberta Thorson on matching produce varieties to your environment and business.

A complimentary dinner featuring locally-raised beef will be served at 7 p.m.
