Grant Dahly to achieve Eagle Scout rank

Grant Dahly will be honored for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout during a 2 p.m. Eagle Court of Honor at the Big 4 Scout Camp, 7056 54th St. SW, Minot. A reception is to follow the Court of Honor.

He will become Boy Scout Troop 425 of Minot’s 98th Eagle Scout. The Congregational United Church of Christ of Minot is the troop’s charter partner.

Grant is the son of Kevin and Carol Dahly of Minot and becomes their third son to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He is currently completing his senior year at Minot High School Magic City Campus, where he is an honor student involved with track, Sources of Strength and tennis. He also has attended the Governor’s School at North Dakota State University. He attends Our Savior Lutheran Church with his family, where he helps the church with community events such as the Horn of Plenty, the pancake breakfast and the Taco Fiesta. After graduation he plans to study accounting at the University of North Dakota.

His Scouting career began in Cub Scouts with the Bell School Pack and then in February 2013, he joined Boy Scout Troop 425. He has held the various leadership positions in his troop, including assistant patrol leader, two terms as senior patrol leader and junior assistant Scoutmaster.

He has earned 35 Merit Badges and he will be receiving the Gold Palm for doing 10 Merit Badges above the minimum 21 Merit Badges. He also has earned numerous special awards. He has earned 99 days and nights of camping as a Scout with Troop 425. He is also a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, which is the BSA’s Honor Society of Campers.

His Eagle Scout Project involved planning, organizing, coordinating both materials and volunteers for a pantry storage wall cabinet unit at the Congregational United Church of Christ. The project required 112 hours to complete with 13 volunteers as it involved removing an existing structure on the wall along with building, mounting and painting the storage wall cabinet.
