Commercial truck driver Luiz Carlos Xavier De Oliveira, 54, Calgary, Alberta, is charged in district court in Burke County with a Class A felony for allegedly attempting to transport about 4,000 pounds of marijuana at the Portal port of entry on Sunday. According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the marijuana was discovered in Xavier De Oliveira’s truck, which had Alberta plates. The contraband drugs were vacuum-sealed in plastic bags inside of boxes and mixed in with other boxes containing plastic containers.

He said he normally transports truck loads to the West Coast and this particular load was not supposed to be his haul.
