Tiffany Perez, Minot, charged with trying to cash stolen check

Tiffany Michelle Perez, 29, Minot, is accused of trying to cash a stolen check for $881 on Monday at Dakota Bank in Minot.

She is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony unlawful use of personal identifying information.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the bank staff told authorities that they had already filed a police report about other stolen checks from that account and they have closed the account. They notified police when Perez tried to cash the stolen check from the same account. Perez first claimed someone had written her the check to pay her for cleaning work and then told another officer a different story.

Perez was arrested and taken to jail, where she was searched. When she was changing into her jail uniform, two syringes and a baggie filled with 0.6 grams of crystal methamphetamine fell out of her bra. She was then subsequently charged with Class C felony possession of drug paraphernalia, her second offense, and Class A misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for May 20 before Judge Doug Mattson.
