Katelin Spottedhorse, Minot, given deferred sentence for child endangerment
Katelin Marie Spottedhorse, 31, Minot, received a deferred imposition of sentence for two years of supervised probation on Wednesday for exposing children to drugs in her home on Sept. 11, 2020.
Judge Doug Mattson also ordered Spottedhorse to obtain a chemical dependency evaluation, to cooperate with Ward County Social Services and take a parenting class and to pay $700 in court costs. The C felony charge will be dismissed if she successfully complies with probation.
Her co-defendant, Mylo Scott Dawson Spottedhorse Jr., 33, was sentenced in January to 360 days in jail, all suspended but the 10 days he had already served, and three years of supervised probation in connection with the same incident. His C felony will be reduced to a Class A misdemeanor if he complies with all terms and conditions set by the court.
According to court documents, Katelin Spottedhorse had reportedly overdosed on narcotics on Sept. 11. She told authorities that she had been using the drugs for pain management. Based on past statements in court, Katelin Spottedhorse was pregnant at the time and was also battling serious health conditions. She was also charged with and pleaded guilty to possession of fentanyl. The state dismissed possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia charges against her. Mylo Spottedhorse Jr. called police and said he had done it to get the children out of a bad situation. Mylo Spottedhorse Jr. tested positive for amphetamines and ecstasy after the incident and, when authorities searched the residence, they found additional drugs and drug paraphernalia.
