Joshua Lee Forschen, 25, Dunseith, is accused of striking a 7-year-old girl crossing the road in Dunseith and then fleeing the scene of the accident on Saturday afternoon. He has been charged with Class B felony hit and run involving the death of a victim and Class B felony manslaughter, according to the Rolette State’s Attorney.

Forschen, who later turned himself in to authorities, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 281 when a group of children were crossing the roadway. One child crossed the road safely but the 7-year-old girl, who has not been identified, was struck. Forschen then allegedly entered the east ditch and fled the scene of the crash. The girl was taken to Trinity Hospital in Minot for treatment but died of her injuries a few hours later, at 7:46 p.m. on Saturday.
