Shannon Lee Hauck, 45, Dickinson, is charged in district court in Minot with two counts of Class C felony criminal vehicular injury on Feb. 13. The Ward County State’s Attorney asked to drop a Class B misdemeanor charge of DUI against Hauck because it was the lesser of the three charges he had been facing.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Hauck admitted to drinking at a bar in Carpio before the head-on collision on U.S. Highway 2 and he smelled of alcohol. His blood alcohol content was .177, more than twice the legal limit. Hauck had been driving south and drifted into the northbound lane and hit the other vehicle. The male driver and his female passenger both suffered several broken bones. The male victim lost consciousness after the crash and required multiple surgeries.

Hauck is scheduled to make an initial appearance on the charges on March 8 before North Central District Court Judge Todd Cresap.
