Michael McCreary charged with aggravated assault

Michael Jon McCreary, 56, Sidney, Mont., is accused of beating another man unconscious and seriously injuring him outside a downtown Minot club on Aug. 23, 2019.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the alleged victim told police that he was surrounded by a group of people wearing biker vests in an alley and did not remember what had happened after that. McCreary, who is associated with a motorcycle gang, is allegedly seen on surveillance video beating the alleged victim unconscious and then walking away without checking to see if the other man was alive or rendering aid. A few minutes later, the motorcycle gang members are seen on video leaving the area on their motorcycles.

The Class C felony aggravated assault charge against McCreary was filed on June 4, 2020 but McCreary did not make an initial appearance on the charge in district court in Minot until Wednesday. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for May 13 before Judge Stacy Louser.

McCreary is currently serving a two year prison sentence for aggravated assault in Williams County. That incident occurred on April 6, 2019. McCreary was found guilty at trial in Williston in October 2020 and was sentenced last month.
