Dawn Duchaine, Minot, sentenced to 18 months for intent to deliver heroin

Dawn Lynn Duchaine, 40, Minot, was sentenced on Tuesday to five years in prison, with a requirement that she serve 18 months, and three years of supervised probation for Class B felony intent to deliver heroin on Dec. 2, 2019. North Central District Court Judge Stacy Louser gave Duchaine credit for the 68 days she has already served in the Ward County Jail, plus nine days off her sentence for good behavior. Duchaine was also ordered to obtain a chemical dependency evaluation, to pay $1,350 in court costs and to surrender the $800 seized at the time of her arrest.

Duchaine was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a registration violation. The driver gave permission to search his vehicle. The search turned up a large amount of heroin in Duchaine’s pocket, packaged in a way that suggested she intended to sell the drug. The search also turned up a loaded syringe with liquid methamphetamine in her purse. Class C felony possession of drug paraphernalia and Class C felony possession of a controlled substance charges against her were dismissed Tuesday as part of the plea deal.
