New Town tribal college receives grant to help students with career planning

Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College (NHSC) in New Town was recently awarded an AT&T Braiding Success grant from the American Indian College Fund (AICF). The Braiding Success program was developed to assist tribal colleges and universities in connecting students with employers and promotes culturally responsive career planning. The program incorporates traditional knowledge and ways into coaching students for their future careers.

Deanna Rainbow, NHS College Student Success Retention counselor, and Jen Janecek-Hartman, vice president of Campus Services, coordinate the program. The grant is designed to offer an additional boost to dual-credit programs, which allow students to take courses that can be used for both high school and college credit.

“This program is designed to benefit dual-credit students by offering hands-on workshops, assistance with financial aid forms and academic/career advisement. The end result is a more seamless transfer from high school to NHS College,” said Rainbow.
